12th February The Opening Break

I was back on the Mess of Pottage with Claire today for the final day of our climbing week. We ascended The Opening Break. Today the route was climbing at Grade III but belays and protection were sparse. It is worth taking a belay three quarters of the way up the big first corner to avoid having to build a snow anchor. There is large amounts of snow accumulating under the cornice at a steep angle.

Many of the buttresses in the Northern Corries have large cornices around them and due care should be taken in poor visibility.

Other teams were climbing The Haston Line, Yukon Jack and Hidden Chimney.
