Winter Skills

Every year snowfall transforms the mountains of Britain into an exciting and challenging playground for the hill walker and mountaineer.  This course will give you the skills necessary to enjoy this environment in safety.

Venues: Climbnow Guides and Instructors work in a variety of venues and are happy to travel to your base.  Common venues are Ben Ledi, the Ben Lawers range, Drummochter Pass, Glencoe, Aonach Mor and the Northern Cairngorms.

Dates: January, February, March, April

Ratio: 1:6 maximum

What’s included: Instruction and helmets. The ClimbNow team can arrange the hire of ice axes and crampons.

Who’s it for: All keen hill walkers who are interested in venturing into the British mountains when covered in snow and ice. No winter experience is necessary.

  • Ice axe use
  • Ice axe arrest
  • ‘The boot as a tool’
  • The use of crampons
  • Cutting steps

Day 2:

  • Avalanche awareness
  • Navigation
  • Completing a Munro
