Cutting to the chase if you are reading this and contemplating using a guide in the Alps (or any of the mountain ranges) book Euan, just make sure it’s not the weeks I want! Within the last 12 months I have done two trips with Euan; firstly a June attempt on Mont Blanc and secondly my first ski touring trip in April this year around Les Contamines / Chamonix / North Italy. Check out his qualifications and technical skills, you won’t get any better, but what you do get with Euan is someone who is good company to share the mountains and a pint with – which can’t be said of all guides.
Having Euan, in his calm and modest way, confidently and expertly teach, explain and guide you around the hills, instills within me an unquestionable trust that all the important bases are covered, allowing me to achieve more than I thought possible. On both trips, important decisions were required and this is where the guide really earns his corn – he got it spot-on in deciding to turn us back whilst ascending Mont Maudit on the way to the Mont Blanc summit (weather and my technical skills a problem) and this year he even managed to get the sun to shine on us for 2 days touring in North Italy whilst elsewhere weather was miserable!
The man really knows and enjoys the mountains and these skills and enthusiasm communicate from the first moment to the last – my next trip is already being planned.
