From the 1st to the 3rd June, David, Chris, Stephen and I completed an SPA training course. This course looks at working as a climbing instructor on single pitch crags. We had a great time at Aberdour, Rosyth Quarry and Blackford Quarry with good weather throughout.
On the evening of the 3rd I drove up to Skye with Martin to meet Tina, Scott, Steve and Duncan. We had a brilliant time for the next five days mountaineering in the Black Cuillin with only two rain showers on the 6th of June.
We began the week on Monday the 4th June by climbing Pinnacle Ridge to the summit of Sgurr Nan Gillean before continuing with Am Basteir, The Bhaseir Tooth, Kings Cave Chimney and Bruach Na Frithe.
The weather for the 5th June was forecast as good all day. However, the rumour was for more rain on the 6th. Therefore we planned for a big day. We began the 5th June by climbing Window Buttress before ascending the Innaccessible Pinnacle, Sgurr Na Banachdich, Sgurr a’Ghreadaich and Sgurr a’Mhadaidh. The section between Ghreadaich and Mhadaidh is one of the best sections on the ridge and highly recommended.
It rained during the evening of the 5th but cleared out before the morning of the 6th. Therefore, we opted to complete another big day. We had a grand time on the Cioch before completing the Sgurr Sgumain and Sgurr Alasdair traverse.
The following day we needed a shorter day so opted for some fun scrambling on Sgurr an Fheadain before relaxing at the Fairy pools. Some of the team opted to cool down their feet and some of the team were much braver going for the full dip!
Yesterday, was our last day on Skye. We completed Sgurr nan Eag, Caisteal a’Garbh Choire, Sgurr Dubh an Da Bheinn Sgurr and Dubh Mor before returning over the Sgumain Stone Shoot and having a last beer at the Sligachan.
