Moorfoots Gorge Walk

Out in the Moorfoot Hills today with Scrutts and a group from the Edinburgh Council Easter Programme doing a very adventurous gorge walk. The gully lines in the Moofoots are still holding a fair bit of snow, so the gorge walk involved some breaking down of snow bridges and clearing small falls of snow in order to make progress. When we started to get cold it was time to jump out of the gorge and walk around to the other side of the hill for some body sledging to warm up. The group of young people generally had an excellent time making the most of the conditions. There’s some icing, but the streams were running. The east side of the hills and ridges are fairly clear of snow, but there are still big snowy patches on the West and North facing slopes and in any sheltered gullies.
