Back to Brack. With the wind swinging around to the South East and picking up, the Brack seemed like a good choice again today. The slopes around the routes weren’t liable to be loading too heavily due to it’s aspect. Also by doing a route on the lower tier we didn’t have to top out in to the wind. Ali and I climbed The Abyss. This gave a good IV,4* with some fun moves at the top of the initial corner and up through and above the crevasse feature the route is named after.
The turf was very well frozen. The snow had some moisture content, but was still being wind transported. There may have been the odd bit of fresh stuff, but it was hard to tell it from the spindrift. Ice on the crag looked solid. Low level ice in the area is still hanging in, but looking pretty hollow. Take care out there folks as the wind will be redistributing the snow on to aspects where it hasn’t been for a while.
